In July 2015, Iran and the 5+1 group (the US, Russia, China, the UK, France, and Germany) signed the nuclear deal, commonly referred to as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). The document envisioned imposing restrictions on Iran’s nuclear program in exchange for easing international sanctions against the Islamic Republic. However, in May 2018, Former President Donald Trump announced the United States’ withdrawal from the nuclear agreement. Negotiations on the restoration of the JCPOA began in the spring of 2021 in Vienna. But success was not achieved.
