Iraq sends a note to Tehran over Iran's water policy, Iraqi Water Minister Mahdi Rashid, Report informs, citing TASS.
According to the minister, Iran's construction of dams on the Little Zab River, which flows into the Tigris River and is vital for Iraq in terms of electricity generation and irrigation, poses a threat to the country's water security: "The unrestricted use of water resources in Little Zab and its tributaries, which originate in Iran, reduces the flow of the Tigris River to Iraq. Thus, Tehran's water policy, which does not consider the interests of its neighbours, increases tensions between them."
Rashid stressed that the reduction of water flow affects the country's electricity generation, as one of Iraq's largest hydropower plants is located on the Little Zab River.
