Moldova's incumbent President Maia Sandu has secured a second term in office after garnering 55.41% of the votes in the second round of the presidential elections, Report informs, citing the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) of Moldova. With 99.86% of the votes counted, representing 930,512 voters, Sandu's victory appears to be decisive.

Her opponent, Alexandr Stoianoglo, received 44.59% of the votes, which amounts to 748,781 voters. The President of Moldova is elected for a four-year term.

Sandu's resounding victory can be largely attributed to the overwhelming support she received from the Moldovan diaspora. A record-breaking 328,877 Moldovans living abroad cast their votes across 231 polling stations set up outside the country, accounting for more than 20% of the total voter turnout. Sandu secured nearly 83% of the votes from the diaspora, amounting to over 270,000 votes.
