Mikheil Saakashvili's wife says she will do everything possible to release him

Yelyzaveta Yasko, Ukrainian MP, wife of Mikheil Saakashvili, told the Eastern Europe bureau of Report that she supports Saakashvili in his fight for the freedom of Georgia.

“The video published on Friday provides enough of comments and assessments. We are together, we love each other, we are political adherents,” Yasko said, commenting on relations with Saakashvili.

She noted that his detention is unlawful: “This is political repression by the current Georgian government, undermining the democratic institutions of this country.”

“The so-called ‘court sentences’ by the Georgian courts are illegal. I will do everything possible to release Mikheil. As a deputy, a citizen of Ukraine and a person close to him,” Yasko said.

She noted that Ukraine must intervene and protect its citizen: “President Zelensky has already spoken out on this matter. I hope that the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry and the embassy in Tbilisi will also do everything necessary to provide Mikheil with the necessary assistance and protection.”

Saakashvili was detained in Tbilisi on October 1 and placed in penitentiary institution No. 12 in Rustavi.

After that, the deputy of the Rada of Ukraine from the Servant of the People party Yelyzaveta Yasko posted a video message from Mikheil Saakashvili on the social network, which made it clear that the third president of Georgia had married.
