Signing a peace treaty with Azerbaijan could bring political dividends for Armenian Prime Minister, Nikol Pashinyan, in the 2026 parliamentary elections, Onnik Krikorian, a journalist from the UK, wrote on X while commenting on Yerevan’s city council elections, Report informs.
According to him, this will affect the way things go from now on and especially with the 2026 parliamentary elections on the horizon.
He said that it remains the case even if Pashinyan’s candidate, Tigran Avinyan, becomes mayor after the legal redistribution of votes as per the electoral code or a deal struck with another party to form a majority in the city council.
Krikorian added that Ruben Vardanyan-supported Mane Tandilyan’s Aprelu Yerkir, incidentally, which has as its logo an outline of Armenia, and the previously occupied regions of Azerbaijan, failed to pass the threshold for representation.
