Pashinyan calls on Armenians to respect France's cognac tradition

During a recent government meeting, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan expressed his belief that Armenian alcohol producers should stop labeling their products as "cognac" and instead embrace the term "brandy."

"People have developed an emotional connection to the term 'cognac,' as it has been used on labels for the past hundred years," Pashinyan acknowledged.

"However, this doesn't mean we should continue down this path and claim that we created cognac. It's not right; cognac is France's intangible heritage."

Pashinyan emphasized that Armenians should refer to their product as "Armenian brandy" rather than "Armenian cognac," even in family settings. If producers struggle to come up with a new name, he suggested they explore options related to the term "brandy."

Economy Minister Gevorg Papoyan revealed that with the help of the European Union, Armenian producers have already begun branding their product as brandy.
