Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has fired Head of the General Staff of the Armenian Armed Forces Onik Gasparyan, Report informs, referring to Sputnik Armenia.
Pashinyan went live on Facebook immediately after the joint statement of high-ranking Armenian military officials demanding the prime minister’s resignation.
Earlier, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Armenia called on Pashinyan to resign.
After that, Pashinyan called on his supporters to gather in Republic Square ‘to defend the revolution,’ calling the military’s demand ‘an attempted coup.’
"The situation is challenging. You know that I made a decision to remove the chief of the General Staff and his first deputy from office. I will announce the reason for these decisions on the square. Now the most important task is to preserve civil and people’s power," he said.
