Peskov says hype around food in stores is 'people's emotional reaction'

The hype around food in stores is extremely emotional, Russian President's Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said, Report informs, citing RT.

"The hype is not based on anything; it is not provoked by anything. The hype is purely emotional. In this case, the Ministry of Industry and Trade is doing great," he said.

Peskov noted that there had already been such an emotional stir, in particular, in the first week of the lockdown during the coronavirus pandemic.

"Despite all the assurances of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, everyone ran to the shops, bought buckwheat, and then it turned out that it did not disappear anywhere, that buckwheat was piled up. Now, this is also emotional," he stressed.

Earlier, the Federal Antimonopoly Service of Russia began to check the supply of sugar to retail chains. According to the service, the rush demand and the actions of unscrupulous entrepreneurs led to the lack of goods on store shelves in several regions.
