Presidential adviser: Kazakhstan to refrain from applying for BRICS membership

Kazakhstan won't apply for BRICS membership in the foreseeable future, Berik Uali, advisor and press secretary to the president of Kazakhstan, said in an interview with the Tengrinews portal, Report informs.

He said that proposals for Kazakhstan's accession to BRICS have been received by the country's President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, and on his instructions, they are being analyzed by relevant departments from the perspective of national interests.

"Most likely, in the foreseeable future, Kazakhstan will refrain from applying to BRICS, taking into account the multi-stage process of considering membership issues, as well as other aspects related to the development prospects of this association," Uali said.

He also noted that Tokayev has repeatedly spoken in favor of the UN as a universal and irreplaceable organization where all current international problems can be discussed, including those related to building a fair world order.

On October 23-24, the BRICS summit will be held in Kazan, and Tokayev has been invited to this forum as a guest.
