Russia to introduce special legal regime for migrants

A special legal regime will be applied to migrants who do not have the right to stay in Russia but are forced to live in the country under the existing conditions, said the press center of the Russian Interior Ministry in response to a request from TASS.

"As one of the preventive measures aimed at increasing the effectiveness of the mechanism for ensuring security and order in the field of migration, it is planned to introduce a special law enforcement regime - 'Controlled stay'. This will be related to migrants who have no legal basis to stay in Russia but continue to be in the country for one reason or another.

"The new special legal regime will apply to foreigners whose deportation decisions have been suspended, whose travel to Russia has been restricted due to the need to enforce their sentences, and those suffering from socially dangerous infectious diseases," the ministry noted.

There are about 1.6 million migrants in Russia, whose term of stay in the country has expired, but they have not left the country.
