Turkey welcomes the statements of the leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia that they are ready for dialogue, as well as the beginning of contacts between the parliamentarians of the two countries, Turkish Grand National Assembly Speaker Mustafa Sentop said during a meeting with OSCE Parliamentary Assembly President Margareta Cederfelt in Ankara.
According to Sentop, the results of the 44-day war opened a new page in the history of the South Caucasus. The Turkish Parliament speaker noted that peace and normalization are in the interests of all regional countries.
"This also applies to relations between Turkey and Armenia. President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has previously stated that Ankara is ready to gradually normalize ties with Yerevan if Armenia takes sincere steps. The processes of normalization of relations between Turkey and Armenia, as well as between Armenia and Azerbaijan, must complement each other," Sentop noted.
He stressed that the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs and the Special Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office must take into account the new realities in the South Caucasus and analyze the reasons for the ineffectiveness of the long-running talks.
