Azerbaijan ranks in middle of Global Childhood Report

Azerbaijan ranked 90^th among 180 countries in the Global Childhood Report 2020.

The country's index was 857 out of 1,000 possible. The closer the index is to 1000, the higher the level of children’s rights protection.

Report informs referring to the study that the best countries for children were Singapore, Slovenia, Finland, and Sweden. The worst countries are Niger, the Central African Republic, and Chad, who ranked 180^th, 179^th, and 178, respectively.

The index takes into account the indicators of health care, education, and children’s safety in general.

According to the rating, the average mortality rate of children under 5 years of age in Azerbaijan is 215 deaths per 10,000 births. About 8.9% of children (mainly girls) get married at the age of 15-19, 17.8% of children are malnourished before the age of 5, and the prevalence of child labor is 6.5%.

The teenage pregnancy rate is 55.8 per 1,000 girls, and child suicide rates are 0.9 per 100,000.

According to the State Statistical Committee of Azerbaijan, from January through March of this year, 29,484 babies were born in the country, which is 2.8% more than a year earlier. The birth rate for every 1,000 people during the reported period was 11.9. Boys accounted for 53% of newborns and girls made 47%.

The population of Azerbaijan in the first three months of 2021 increased by 10,981 people or by 0.1% - up to 10,130,114 as of April 1, 2021.
