Airfares to Azerbaijan are considered one of the obstacles to inbound tourism, Head of Tourism Policy and Strategy Department of the State Tourism Agency Mohammad Nuriyev said at the Azerbaijan Tourism Summit in Baku.
Nuriyev was commenting on the fact that air tickets from various European cities to neighboring Turkiye and Georgia are 3-4 times cheaper than to Azerbaijan:
"Such issues are discussed around a topic from the point of view of state policy. The approach in the Socio-Economic Development Strategy is that there is a question of optimizing the activities of state-owned companies. A unified approach is applied not to one state-owned company but to many state-owned companies. We act as a coordinating body between government agencies and have put this issue on the government's agenda so far. We expect significant changes in the tourism sector in this direction in the coming years."
