Masatsugu Asakawa: Global trade and supply chains are vulnerable

This meeting invites us to consider how we can work together to build a bridge to the future, ADB President Masatsugu Asakawa said at the opening of the session of the Asian Development Bank Board of Governors in Tbilisi, Report informs.

"This meeting invites us to consider how we can work together to build a bridge to the future. 2023 has been the hottest year ever and food supplies are vulnerable. This is a major threat on many fronts - from food to infrastructure and beyond. The future depends on how we can respond to these challenges,” he said.

Asakawa emphasized that global warming has a negative impact on people's lives and creates risks for the future.

"Crops and food supplies are becoming increasingly vulnerable. Melting glaciers are causing enormous destruction to water infrastructure," Asakawa said.

The ADB President also noted the role of artificial intelligence in solving modern problems: “The Bank believes that overcoming the digital divide and harnessing the power of artificial intelligence are the keys to a better future.”
