Nigel Ellway: Media very important tool for combating landmine threat

The media is an important tool for covering issues related to the landmine threat that Azerbaijan faces, Nigel Ellway, director of the mine action NGO Revive, told Report.

He was commenting on the indifference of international structures to the mine problem in Azerbaijan.

He added that nowadays the media often sets the agenda, so it is very important that the information conveyed by journalists carries the necessary weight for international structures: “So part of it really is finding the right journalists who would be able to give your story the weight that it needs.”

“But what I will say is, when the world's media focuses in one direction, politicians focus in that direction,” he noted, citing as examples Ukraine and Israel, which hold the front pages of newspapers.
