Sweden is taking emergency security measures, including placing snipers on rooftops in Malmo, a city in the country’s south that is hosting the Eurovision Song Contest 2024, Report informs via the European Conservative.

As the website notes, Israel's participation in the competition against the backdrop of the situation in the Gaza Strip causes discontent among the Muslim community of Malmo.

At the same time, almost every Saturday there are demonstrations in the city against the war in Gaza. Israel's representative at the competition, Eden Golan, did not take part in the opening ceremony of the competition, which took place on May 5, due to threats.

"Israel's National Security Council declared a 'well-founded fear' of terrorism at the six-day music competition," the article said.

It also highlights that Eurovision organizers have announced their intention to ban spectators from bringing any Palestinian flags or symbols, and Swedish police have warned of the risk of bombings, shootings and even kidnappings.

The song contest will be held in Malmo from May 7 through 11.
