At a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in Moscow on May 8, it was agreed upon the withdrawal of Russian military and border guards from a number of regions of Armenia, but they will remain on the Armenian border with Türkiye and Iran, Russian Presidential Spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said, Report informs referring to Russian media.

“In the fall of 2020, at the request of the Armenian side, our military and border guards were stationed in a number of Armenian regions. Pashinyan said that today, due to changed conditions, there is no longer such a need, so President Putin agreed, and the withdrawal of our military and border guards was agreed upon,” Peskov said.

At the same time, he noted that at the request of the Armenian side, Russian border guards will remain on the Armenian-Turkish and Armenian-Iranian border.

“They will remain there and continue to perform their functions,” the Kremlin representative said.
